Song of the Sisy

It takes courage,
they tell me,
to step blindly
into a new adventure,
without a hand
to reach for
in the dark.
It takes bravery,
they tell me,
to push a rock
up this mountain,
certain that it
will succumb to
gravity's siren song,
sure that each new morning
will bring the same
tedious task
as the day before.
It is noble,
they tell me,
to carry
an unending burden,
knowing that it
can never
be set down.
But darling,
I am neither brave
nor noble
(in truth, I am a Sisy).
Run away with me
and we will
hide ourselves
from angry gods.
